Details about Anthony Newton and linked projects and collaborations.
My primary research interests are tephrochronology and the development of scientific web resources. My tephrochronological research is mainly centred in Iceland and north-west Europe, but I have also worked in Mexico. The aim of which is refine the chronological use of tephra layers in palaeoenvironmental research. In Iceland this research is tied into understanding how people have impacted on the landscape since settlement in the late 9th century. My doctoral research was on ocean-transported pumice, which is found throughout the North Atlantic region.
My web resource interests began in the early 1990s with the development of Tephrabase, a tephrochronological database. I have also developed several other resources including the NABO website and this GHEA site.
