Scott studies human and environmental interactions with an emphasis on using insights from archaeological research to address contemporary problems. Current and on-going research empirically evaluates conceptual models (used by many disciplines) of human vulnerability to drought in arid and semi-arid regions. Other research interests also include social transformations, sustainability, resilience, climate change, dendroclimatology, and ecological anthropology.
