Sylvie is a researcher and an associate professor at the Tourism Chair at UQAM working on the Ouranos project on adaptation strategies to Climate Change for the tourism industry. She is also conducting 2 other projects in the Arctic funded by the French Polar Research Institute (IPEV) looking at the impact of mining development on Caribou and human health in collaboration with the Baker Lake hamlet of Nunavut. She is developing cross cultural research collaborations between aboriginal communities, exploring with them new research methodologies linking local expertise and scientific knowledge, adressing community concerns and priorities. She was awarded a 3 year European Marie Curie research fellowhip to develop participatory action research, collaborative enquiry and social engagement techniques adapted to aboriginal context and works with J. Chevalier (www.sas2.net), the Cri First Nations of Eeyou Istchee in Québec, the Inuit of Nunavut and the Saami of Northern Sweden
