Research Summary

I am a third year PhD student at the University of Stirling with the School of Natural Sciences; trained primarily as an archaeologist I am linking archaeology and soil science through the medium of geoarchaeological research. I am investigating buried soils at the Links of Noltland, Westray, Orkney to characterize anthropogenic sediments and soils related to a number of prehistoric structures. The hypothesis that prehistoric people actively controlled the deposition of household waste and utilized midden as a resource will be tested in the endeavor to understand more about land management practices in the Neolithic and Bronze Age periods and changes over time.
