Details about Joe Flatman and linked projects and collaborations.
I am currently undertaking research in relation to the enhanced position that archaeological data and approaches can play in government strategy, policy and practice as regards global level concerns, in particular climate change mitigation and adaptation. This links into the expanding policy commitment that I undertake at UCL's Institute of Archaeology as chair of the Institute’s Heritage Policy Group think-tank. In early 2012 my co-edited volume Archaeology in Society: Its Relevance in the Modern World (Springer Press) was published on this topic, a major contribution to debate in this field. Building on this volume, I am now in the early stages of planning a follow-up book on this subject, provisionally entitled Archaeology and Public Policy, a review of past, present and potential future connections between archaeological research and government policy and decision-making in the UK.
