Research Summary

I am an Environmental Archaeologist working in the North Atlantic and I am currently extending my long term archaeological investigations in Iceland''s Eyjafjörður region to include not only the  "Eyafjörður Ecodynamics/Gásir and Hinterlands Project +", but also the "Siglunes Project."

These ongoing and expanding projects involve aspects of local and international trade and exchange and place archaeological sites (Hörgárdalur, Siglunes, Eyjaförður) of various social standings into a regional framework that enables me to focus on long term Icelandic human/environment interactions. By integrating well-excavated and well-analyzed archaeological materials with environmental and historical data I investigate a marginal region and its involvement in international trade and potential medieval world systems connections.
