Research Summary

I am a founding member and present chair of the Nordic Network for Interdisciplinary Environmental Studies (NIES, http://www.kth.se/abe/nies). Born and raised in the USA, I have lived and worked in Sweden for most of the past 20 years, holding appointments at Uppsala University, Stockholm University, Linnaeus University and KTH Royal Institute of Technology. In 2013 I became Chair Professor of English Literature at Mid Sweden University. I am one of the coordinators of the research initiative Inscribing Environmental Memory in the Icelandic Sagas. My scholarly orientation within literary studies is heavily indebted to ecocriticism, though I also aspire to apply this approach to a more fully interdisciplinary model of environmental humanities scholarship less typical of ecocriticism, per se, and more in keeping with the principles of team-driven integrated science promoted by the ISSC in their Transformative Cornerstones of Social Science Research for Global Change.
