Details about Viğar Hreinsson and linked projects and collaborations.
My main subjects are medieval literatures, 17th century literature and conception of nature, post-Gutenberg manuscript culture, Icelandic emigrant literature, and literary aspects of 20th century urbanization in Iceland. Currently, I'm redirecting my research interests towards ecocriticism, ecopoetics and the “humans in nature” relationship, rejecting outdated binary oppositions like “culture/nature – subject/object”. My research interests are directed towards the conception of nature and humans in nature through the centuries, as represented in a variety of literatures.
Apart from the ecocritical approach, my theoretical approach is pluralistic (with epistemological leanings), mainly based on Paul Ricoeur’s hermeneutics, Mikhail Bakhtin’s dialogism, semiotics and posthumanism.
