Research Summary

I am an environmental archaeologist, behavioral geoarchaeologist, and pyrogeographer in the Department of Anthropology at SMU, where I have been working since 2010. I have active NSF-funded research projects in New Mexico and Fiji (as Co-Principal Investigator) and am a senior scientist on NSF-funded research in Montana and Guatemala. My primary research interests are in the intersection of human societies, climate change, and landscape fires. Most of my research projects are in this realm, wherein I use sedimentary, tree-ring, and anthropological datasets to explore these relationships at multi-century to millennial timescales. I maintain secondary research and teaching interests in what I call "behavioral geoarchaeology": the application of earth science techniques to reconstruct past human behaviors. You can find some of my publications through my and ResearchGate profiles.
