McGovern is a zooarchaeologist and director of Hunter College CUNY Zooarch Lab since 1989. A recovering processualist, he is interested in the dynamic long term interaction of place, people, politics and of course animal bones, and attempting to be more resilient while losing weight and becoming a better GHEA and NABO website user. Coordinator NABO, and at present also coordinating the archaeology program at the CUNY Graduate Center. Cooperates with Sophia Perdikaris in education and outreach efforts as part of the Islands of Change program.
