- Numerical Modelling
My dissertation research concerns fish remains from archaeological sites throughout the Monterey Bay area of central California. I'm interested in whether we can sort out human overexploitation from climate change effects in the relative abundances of fish species through time. By combining current fisheries research with archaeological data and knowledge of prehistoric fishing practices, I hope to gain a greater understanding of the interactive relationship between people and the marine environment. To address these topics, I use both zooarchaeology and mathematical modeling (in particular, a type of modeling usually called dynamic state variable modeling, or stochastic dynamic programming).
