Details about Shari Gearheard and linked projects and collaborations.
My work centers on linking Inuit and scientific knowledge to understand the Arctic environment and environmental change. My current projects are related to sea ice, weather forecasting, and Inuit women and climate change. I also lead a project called ELOKA (Exchange for Local Observations and Knowledge of the Arctic), which is developing data management services for projects that work with local and traditional knowledge. I am a research scientist with the National Snow and Ice Data Center at the University of Colorado at Boulder, but I am based full time in the community of Kangiqtugaapik (Clyde River) on Baffin Island, Nunavut. I also have a great interest in the Inuktitut language and dog sledding.
