Details about Richard Callaghan and linked projects and collaborations.
I am currently conducting research on St. Vincent funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. The project is using ground penetrating radar to investigate deeply buried sites with the goal of obtaining botanical and other remains and to analyze community structure. Other research includes computer modeling of historical and archaeological problems dealing with migrations, maritime cultural contacts and interaction spheres, and voyages of discovery. Recent research has focused on the colonization of Palau, Madagascar, the Caribbean Islands, Magellan’s crossing of the Pacific, the avenues for the prehistoric introduction of Gallus gallus to Chile from Polynesia, Edo period wrecks on the North West Coast of North America, and Neolithic voyaging around the British Isles.
